An international football competition between the men’s national teams of FIFA’s member associations, the 2022 FIFA World Cup was its 22nd iteration. It was the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 competition in South Korea and Japan and was held in Qatar from November 20, 2022, to December 18, 2022.
It was the first World Cup to be held in the Arab and Muslim worlds. After defeating Croatia 4-2 in the 2018 championship game, France was the defending champion.
It is currently the most expensive World Cup ever, with an estimated cost of over $21.5 billion; Qatari officials dispute this figure, including the organizing CEO Nasser Al Khater, who claims the real cost is $7.3 billion; other figures pertain to overall infrastructure development since the World Cup was awarded to Qatar in 2010.
Argentina vs France Final 2022, Golden Ball, Golden Boot, Golden Glove, and Young Player Awards
Argentina won the championship after defeating France, the defending champion, 4-2 on penalties following a nail-biting 120-minute deadlock of 3-3 in overtime to win their third World Cup after 36 years.
The French player Kylian Mbappé won the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals (eight) throughout the tournament. He was also the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final since Geoff Hurst in 1966 final.
Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, was selected as the competition’s top player and awarded the Golden Ball. Also from Argentina, Emiliano Martinez and Enzo Fernández took home the Golden Glove and Young Player Awards, which were given to the competition’s top goalkeeper and best young player, respectively.
The France players are now on the debate stage, accepting their Runners-Up medals resentfully. The French camp is filled with gloomy faces as they go through the motions. While Kylian Mbappe is receiving words of comfort from French President Emmanuel Macron, he appears to be waiting to be somewhere else.
FIFA World Cup 2022 Highlights
With 48 teams expected to compete in the 2026 tournament, this one will be the last with 32 teams. The event was held in November and December to avoid the climatic extremes of Qatar. 64 matches were played in eight locations across five cities during a condensed 29-day period. As the host nation, Qatar automatically qualified for the competition, their first World Cup, along with 31 other teams chosen through the qualification process. As the first hosts to drop all three of their group matches, the earliest host nation to be eliminated, and the second host (following South Africa in 2010) to fail to advance past the group stage, Qatar lost all three games.
In the meantime, Croatia won the third-place playoff at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022, defeating Morocco 2-1 to take the bronze medal.

History Of Golden Ball
The FIFA Analytical Research Team selects a shortlist in collaboration with members of the international media, and the votes are cast based on the players in the checklist. The Golden Ball award was first presented in 1982 at the Spain World Cup. It is given to the championship’s best player. The first prize went to Italian Paulo Rossi, who shared it with some of the game’s all-time greats like Maradona. Ronaldo, Zidane, and Modric have all won before.
And now Lionel Messi is the recipient of the tournament’s best player award. He approaches the podium grinning widely before kissing the trophy to thunderous applause from the audience.
